Was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland but moved to Canada in his late teens, where he embarked on a career in journalism and broadcasting that would las over thirty Years, most of it in news and documentary programming with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. He also pursued an academic career in parallel, with two graduate degrees from McGill University in Montreal and taught Communications at the University of Ottawa. During his undergraduate degree, he majored in creative writing. His doctoral dissertation was on the broadcast plays of the late Canadian author, W.O. Mitchell and will be published by Trafford. He also contributed to an anthology on Mitchell published by the University of Toronto Press.
